Suzanne Galaise

Quebec Certified Genealogist

Passionate about genealogy since 1987, Suzanne Galaise earned a GFA* in 2012. From 2012 to 2016, she was the general director of the Société généalogique canadienne-française (SGCF), a Montreal-based genealogical society. She is admissions counsellor with Collège April-Fortier and travel agent with Groupe Voyages VP, a travel agency. A former teacher, Suzanne is dedicated to helping develop the next generation of genealogists—she has created a 12-hour beginners' course which she taught for five years at the SGCF. After 10 years of research on the military, she has participated in the Montcalm Project and she is one of the six co-authors of the book Combattre pour la France en Amérique : les soldats de la guerre de Sept Ans en Nouvelle-France, 1755-1760. Nowadays, Suzanne is researching her Italian roots. She developed a course on researching Italian ancestors given at the SGCF in 2016 and 2017. She shares some of her discoveries on her French-language blog Les Toscans et autres Italiens au Canada au XIXe siècle. Suzanne has published several articles in various genealogy periodicals. She is very active on social media, monitoring the genealogy community's current events in Québec, Canada, the United States and Europe very closely. Now working for Collège April-Fortier, she is also an outside agent for Groupe Voyages VP, her degree in tourism allowing her to share her expertise with those who wish to visit their ancestors' birthplace.

* GFA: généalogiste de filiation agréée or certified filiation genealogist, title earned from the Bureau québécois d'attestation de compétence en généalogie.
